Who all are on Vineet’s team*?
Prof. Devendra Raj Ankur graduated from NSD in 1972 with a specialization in Direction. During the course of his career he has directed numerous plays with different amateur and professional groups across India. He has also directed plays, taught and conducted workshops in Hong Kong, Denmark, China, Japan, France, Maldives, Russia, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Bangladesh and Australia. To add to this he has published four books on Theatre Direction. He was conferred the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in the year 2003 for his contribution to Theatre.
Founder Artistic Director – Act One Theatre Group N. K. Sharma is a legend in the field of Theatre in his own right. He has conceived and directed numerous plays in the last 20 years of his theatre group – Act One. ‘Act One’ has been a breeding ground for many successful actors including Manoj Bajpai and Ashish Vidyarathi. No workshop is complete without theory classes, intelligently complemented by practical exercises. Now this stalwart will deal with different and specific aspects of theatre that actors must be aware of to portray characters truthfully, on stage or screen.
He’s an NSD graduate who moved to Toronto, Canada for further training. He was at the Canadian Film Center for a while before he joined Jacqueline McClinton to learn the celebrated Meisner Technique. He won the ‘Best Actor in a Supporting Role’ at the Star Screen Awards 2008 for his sensitive and powerful performance in the film ‘Taare Zameen Par’ directed by Aamir Khan. Moreover, he has worked with directors of repute like Ketan Mehta, Shyam Benegal, Vikram Bhatt in India, and internationally with Ron Lindsay, Shane Belcourt and Rhett Morita to name a few.
He is a pass out in M.S. from New
Jersey Institute of Technology, U.S.A. with specialization in
CAD/CAM & Robotics. He has directed numerous T.V. Series and
Commercials.
Abhilash Pillai (Lecturer Acting) Abhilash Pillai is a visiting faculty/Director of different universities and institutes and has been teaching ‘Acting and Allied Subjects’ at NSD for the last three years.
Abhilash did his
Graduation in Theatre Arts from the Calicut University. He also did
a 3-year Post Graduate Diploma in Theatre Arts from the National
School of Drama, New Delhi with a distinction in Design and
Direction. Besides this, he passed a 2-year Diploma in Theatre
Production and Stage Management with ‘Honours’ from
The Royal Academy of Dramatic
Art (RADA), London
in 1998. He has also designed about twenty-five plays in India and
abroad.
Sanjay jha Graduated in Science, followed by a three years diploma course in Dramatics from National School of Drama, New Delhi (Specialization in Design and Direction) 1994. He also pursued the Course in Film Appreciation at the Film and Television Institute of India, Pune under the aegis of the National Film Archives of India. He wrote ‘Raja Salhesh (1990) a play in Hindi for the Sangeet Natak Academy, New Delhi under the young playwrights’ scheme followed by Swabhimaan (1997), a Plus channel mega-serial directed by Mahesh Bhatt and Captain Vyom(1998), a science fiction teleserial by Ketan Mehta. After assisting directors like Sanjay Leela Bhansali for ‘Khamoshi’(1995-1996), Milan luthria for ‘kachche dhaage’(1996-1999) and Vidhu Vinod Chopra for ‘Mission Kashmir’ (1999-2000), Sanjay directed his debut film ‘Pran jaaye par shaan na jaaye’(2003) written and produced by Mahesh V. Manjrekar starring Sushmita Sen, Raveena Tandon, Vijay Raaz and Mahesh Manjrekar. He then directed a cross-over feature film, ‘Strings - bound by faith’ (2006) starring Adam Bedi, Tannishta Chatterjee, Sandhya Mridul and Vinit Kumar. Presently, he is in the process of post-production of the film ‘MUMBAI CHAKACHAK’ starring Rahul Bose, Vinay Pathak, Mandira Bedi and Cyrus Broacha.
An actor-writer par excellence, Asif Khan is a ‘Sangeet Kala Academy’ award winner. He is an NSD graduate who is currently heading Anupam Kher’s acting academy in Chandigarh – An Actor Prepares. He will teach participants how to get the best out of any given script. He has penned down many original plays: GULAB BAI, KAFKA, SHAHJAHAN PUR KI SHEHZADI, STATION, HANSNA MANA HAI, BAWRA MAN DEKHNE CHALA EK SAPNA and more.
He graduated from the National School of Drama in the year 1994, and then went on to successfully complete his diploma from FTII. He soon acquired ‘Fellowship’ from Ministry of Culture and NSD before embarking on higher learning grounds at the Central School of Speech & Drama, Swiss Cottage - London.
Currently, he is practicing Theatre with
his own theatre group ‘Manch’, based out of Mumbai and has staged
near about 40 productions. He has also successfully dabbled into
films and T.V. Serials portraying challenging character roles.
A National School of Drama graduate, he will work along with Vineet to do specialized work on the external tool of the participant actors, training them on a daily basis to be fit enough to execute all kinds of physically strenuous and challenging tasks with ease.
